70s rockstar performs for the first time since brain | Music News

Billy Joel made a shock return to the stage Friday night time, marking his first public efficiency since being identified with a brain condition that pressured him to cancel his tour in 2025.

Joel joined Turnstiles, a tribute band named after his Nineteen Seventies album, during a live performance celebrating Wellington’s thirtieth anniversary.

The Piano Man carried out two of his hits, We Didn’t Start the Fire and Big Shot, in entrance of a cheering Florida crowd.

“I wasn’t planning on working tonight,” Joel told the viewers, seated at a piano in a black cap and jacket.

“What are we doing?” he requested.

When the band’s frontman recommended a Billy Joel tune, Joel smiled and replied, “I can give it a try. I know the guy who wrote it.”

Joel walked on stage with the assist of a cane.

His spouse, Alexis Roderick, and their daughters, Della and Remy, joined him, dancing next to the piano as he performed.

The look got here almost eight months after Joel disclosed that he had been identified with regular stress hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition triggered by extra cerebrospinal fluid in the brain that impacts mobility.

At the time, he canceled all future performances and said he would endure bodily therapy.

In a July 2025 interview with Bill Maher, Joel said he was feeling properly, despite stability points.

“It sounds a lot worse than what I’m feeling,” he said, describing a fall on stage earlier that 12 months as one of the first indicators of bother.

An announcement launched in May 2025 said Joel was under doctor’s orders to stop performing.

“Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health,” the assertion read.

“He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage.”

That second got here Friday, a lot to the shock of Turnstiles’ lead singer, who told the crowd, “I have to be dreaming this… We wanna see you on stage soon.”
