Wendy Williams says she is alcohol-free – except | TV Shows
Former talkshow host Wendy Williams took to The View to speak out for the first time since entering a court-ordered guardianship in 2022, as well as her recent hospital visit which was self-ordered.
During her phone call with the panel on March 14, she also confessed to being sober since last July after publicly struggling with substance abuse issues.
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin asked Williams about the status of her drug and alcohol struggles, which she has previously opened up about during visits to The View.
Wendy responded: “I’ve had my vices, and I have to tell you something, I am easily going on with my life alcohol free. For the rest of my life.”
“But, I must admit to you, when I got from Connecticut to New York it was my birthday. July 18. And yes, I celebrated…but no more. No more alcohol.”
During the visit, Williams also spilled that she wants “to get out” of the guardianship, which she previously compared to a prison.
“It’s been over three years, and it’s time for my money and my life to get back to status quo,” she said. “I need a new guardian…I need this one to get off my neck.”
She also touched on the memory care unit in which she lives, saying: “The people are 90 and 80 and 70. I’m 60. I stay in the bedroom the majority of the time and can’t have visitors.”
She described her need for the hospital visit as a way to get a ‘breath of fresh air.’
