Governor of Mexican state says US revoked her | Political News
The governor of the Mexican state of BajaCalifornia, which borders the U.S., says the United States withdrew vacationer visas from both her and her husband.
Marina del Pilar Avila, who is from the ruling Morena social gathering, did not say why her visa was withdrawn.
“I fully trust that the situation will be satisfactorily clarified for both of us,” she wrote on X on Sunday.
The day-to-day business ties between Baja California and California run deep, social gathering a outcome of their geographical proximity. It’s not clear how typically Avila visits the U.S. for political business, however.
Carlos Torres Torres, Aviila’s husband and an lively member of Morena, wrote on Facebook on Saturday that his “conscience is clear.”
“This proceeding does not represent a formal accusation, investigation or indictment by any authority in Mexico or the United States,” he added.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether or not Avila or her husband deliberate to take motion against the revocation of their vacationer visas.
Baja California reportedly sees probably the most pedestrian crossings of any Mexican state that borders the U.S.
Last Thursday, Gov. Avila acquired a go to from the U.S. Consul General in Tijuana, Christopher Teal, with whom she mentioned regional bilateral points, including security, financial development and human rights, CNN reported.
Avila issued a prolonged assertion on X discussing what occurred, writing, “In these days, I have once again witnessed what love, integrity, and loyalty truly mean. My husband, Carlos, has faced a situation, and as in any shared life, that circumstance has also reached me.”
“Shortly after the consular measure that was applied to him, I received a similar notification,” she added. “I am certain and fully trust that the situation will be resolved satisfactorily for both of us.”
She praised her husband, who she mentioned “has at all times acted with integrity, with dedictation and with a deep dedication to Baja California.”
“My support for him is not only personal, it is moral and political. Because I know who he is and because he has never shied away from facing challenges or taking responsibility for what is not his,” she wrote.
“I inform all the residents of Baja California that this situation arises in a complex Binational context that requires composure and prudence on my part,” she continued, referencing the present political climate surrounding immigration in the U.S.
“I have said it on numerous occasions, governing my state is a source of pride, and I will continue to do so with my heart leading the way, with a clear conscience, my government will continue to work tirelessly to address the challenges we face for the benefit of the people of Baja California,” she added.
It comes as the Trump administration is cracking down closely on unlawful immigration, utterly closing the souther border with Mexico and launching a mass deporation effort.
