In true competition style, the show’s format will feature plenty of exciting elements. “Each diver will attempt to outperform their competitors, with moves including the Hammerhead Hoedown and Tiger Trot, and redefine dancing with danger,” the logline reads. “They will have one shot to wow the judges and be crowned the first-ever champion of Dancing with Sharks.”

The show will include “skill, grace, and the daring pursuit of the ultimate underwater thrill,” with the tension of a dance-off.

It comes after Bergeron announced the project in an Instagram video on May 14, as he slowly revealed a sweater emblazoned with the show’s logo.

His return comes after his 15-season run on Dancing With the Stars, a role he held from 2005 until his departure in 2020.

At the time, it was reported that ABC said the show was heading in “a new creative direction,” issuing a statement to People Magazine that praised Bergeron’s contribution to the franchise.

It read, “Tom Bergeron will forever be part of the Dancing with the Stars family. As we embark on a new creative direction, he departs the show with our sincerest thanks and gratitude for his trademark wit and charm that helped make this show a success.”

The network also confirmed co-host Erin Andrews would be exiting alongside him. “Erin will also not be returning, and we appreciate all that she brought to the ballroom,” the statement continued. “Fans have been rooting for her since she originally competed as a contestant back in 2010, and her signature sense of humor has become a hallmark of the show.”

Though Bergeron was a fixture on DWTS for over a decade, he’s been candid about his feelings leading up to his departure.

“In all candor, the show that I left was not the show that I loved,” he said during a 2021 appearance on Bob Saget’s Here for You podcast. “So, at the end of the season, that turned out to be my last season, I kind of knew. I took everything out of my dressing room that I really wanted.”

He is also known for having previously presented a number of shows, including Breakfast Time, Hollywood Squares and America’s Funniest Home Videos.
