Pete Hegseth won’t rule out plans to invade | Political News


Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth instructed that the Pentagon has contingency plans to take over Greenland and Panama by drive, if needed, during a tense congressional listening to on Thursday.

Hegseth refused to reply repeated questions during the combative listening to in entrance of the House Armed Services Committee about the use of his Signal chats to focus on navy operations.

But he indicated that the Pentagon had plans for “any contingency” when requested if it had developed plans to take Greenland by drive.

“Our job at the Defense Department is to have plans for any contingency,” Hegseth stated a number of instances.

Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio) even coached the previous Fox News pundit through his questions as he tried to defend Hegseth from self-incrimination.

“Lawyer here. I just want to help you out because people try to twist your words,” Turner started. “You are not confirming in your testimony today that, at the Pentagon, that there are plans for invading or taking by force Greenland, correct? That is not your testimony today?”

Hegseth responded: “All my testimony is is that the Pentagon has plans for any number of contingencies.”

That response appeared to alarm Turner, who pushed additional.

“It is not your plan today that there are plans at the Pentagon for taking by force or invading Greenland, correct? ‘Cause I sure as hell hope that it is not your testimony,” the congressman requested again.

“We look forward to working with Greenland to ensure that it is secured from any potential threats,” Hegseth replied.

Turner wasn’t the only one to ask about Greenland, either — Rep. Adam Smith also requested Hegseth whether or not the Pentagon had plans to take Greenland or Panama by drive, to which Hegseth responded: “Our job at the Defense Department is to have plans for any contingency.”

President Donald Trump has beforehand voiced plans to take over Greenland and Panama, but he hasn’t yet adopted through on those threats. He’s also stated he needs to make Canada the 51st state.
