Iran nearly succesfully assassinated President Donald Trump’s former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in 2022, a new ebook alleges.
Pompeo barely survived an assassination attempt while he was staying at a hotel in Paris, according to the book 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America by Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf, The Washington Post reported ahead of its publication next monh.
Pompeo served as the 70th Secretary of State from 2018 – 2021 during Trump’s first presidential term.
While details on the alleged hit are sparce, the new book claims Iranians identified the Parisian hotel where Pompeo was staying and almost succeeded in taking him out.
The book also claims the Iranians attempted to assassinate U.S. officials at least three times in the three years before Trump won the 2024 election, the Post reported.
Pompeo became a target for Iran after playing a key role in the president’s order to assassinate Qasem Soleimani, a high Iranian navy commander.
Pompeo’s workforce has yet to remark on the upcoming ebook and its claims.
Back in January Pompeo issued a stern warning to Iran‘s leaders, asserting that Trump would impose a “maximum pressure” coverage to carry down the brutal regime.
