Collin Morikawa’s momentary caddie, Billy Foster, has made it clear that he will not be taking on the position completely, even if the PGA Tour star clinches The Open Championship next week. Morikawa enlisted Foster for this week’s Scottish Open after parting methods with Joe Greiner. The Englishman is the third caddie to work with the world No. 5 in the 2025 season, following the tip of his partnership with long-time caddie JJ Jakovac post-Masters.

Foster’s appointment is a short-term association, masking Morikawa’s two-week UK tour for the Scottish Open and Open Championship. Should Morikawa secure a second Open victory in Northern Ireland next week, it is probably the American would need Foster to be a part of his staff full-time.

However, the seasoned DP World Tour and PGA Tour caddie has no intention of accepting such an offer due to Morikawa’s Ryder Cup commitments.

“If by some minor miracle he wins The Open next week and offers me the job, I’d have to say ‘well, I’d love to work with you, but I could not work the Ryder Cup for America’,” Foster shared with talkSPORT. “Let’s put that on record right now.

“I’ve achieved 16 Ryder Cups, you bleed Europe. It can be like me scoring a hat-trick for Man United against Leeds.”

Foster is well-acquainted with the European team, having worked alongside golfing greats like Lee Westwood, Darren Clarke, Seve Ballesteros, and Matt Fitzpatrick in the Ryder Cup.

However, his current focus is on Morikawa. Their partnership had a shaky start in Scotland when the American golfer didn’t make the cut after 36 holes.

It was Morikawa’s second round that cost him a spot over the weekend, shooting a six-over-par 76 on the second day, negating his opening round of 68.

Reflecting on their first day together, the PGA Tour star shared: “It was great. I believe he was liking the putts that had been dropping. I made fairly a few all through that center spherical of the stretch — or center stretch of the spherical.

“But it’s just a lot of fun. He’s obviously got a lot of stories, and I enjoy those. Just asking questions about Seve, Westwood, Clarke, and even Fitz. He’s not tried to change my game, but he’s already learned my game and how I need to play out here.

“I’ve leaned a lot on him so far through one spherical, and I’m going to keep doing that the next two weeks.”

Now, it is back to the grind for Morikawa and Foster as they’ve already touched down at Royal Portrush for the season’s closing main.
