A major Emmerdale star has give up the show after just a year in the village, with explosive twists on the horizon for his character. Actor Oliver Farnworth, who joined the ITV cleaning soap as the mysterious serial killer John Sugden last summer season, has been at the center of one of the show’s greatest ever storylines. But now it’s been revealed that he will probably be leaving soon, a lot to the shock of Emmerdale followers.

A source close to the manufacturing told The Sun: “It’s the beginning of the end for John. He’s got away with so much but he’s about to make a fatal mistake that sees him exposed for what he is. Obviously, Oliver knew that a character like John had a shelf life and that’s rapidly approaching. He’s loved his time on the show but there’s still plenty of twists and turns coming before he departs for good.”

John’s departure comes after an action-packed year, with the character leaving a path of hazard and devastation in his wake. Last week, it was reported that the cleaning soap had filmed surprising homicide scenes involving Mackenzie Boyd, as John strikes again.

A source revealed: “The scenes are going to be actually harrowing for followers to watch. Mackenzie has been in so many scrapes and harmful positions but this time it seems to be like he’s bitten off more than he can chew.

“Viewers will be on the edges of their seats watching what happens.”

These tense moments are set to air later this year, following Mackenzie’s chilling discovery about John. Actor Lawrence Robb, who plays Mackenzie, has already filmed his character’s heartbreaking death scenes.

The insider added: “There are huge twists and turns coming throughout this storyline, and it’s going to run for months and months.

Nothing can be ruled out – bosses are really going for it and doing everything they can to keep the audience on their toes.”

Fans have been buzzing with speculation about how John’s exit will unfold. With his character already responsible for the murders of Nate Robinson, the attack on Aidan Moore, and leaving Owen to die, it seems only a matter of time before his actions catch up with him.

It’s rumoured that Mackenzie Boyd will be the next victim of John, but this has yet to be confirmed by Emmerdale.

While the reviews of Mack’s death stay unconfirmed, it’s believed that he’ll unearth what John has been up to before his tragic exit from the show.

The departure of Farnworth’s character also coincides with the end of Mack’s journey, with Lawrence Robb thought to be bowing out after 5 years. “Life-changing” scenes for Mack and his best pal Aaron had been teased for September.
