I do not know that going on recess was actually a good concept for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). It appears to have accelerated his marble-losing. First, it was the imaginary buddies. Now, it is imaginary D.C. outings.

Meanwhile, it seems the Texas legislature goes to get back to the business of redistricting — and delivering a more favorable GOP House map for 2026. 

White House What’s Up

President Donald Trump receives his intelligence briefing Thursday morning, and then is set to “deliver remarks” from the Oval Office in the early afternoon. Remarks of what kind, we do not yet know. Probably best to have the popcorn at the prepared.

The Trump administration notched a strong win on Wednesday with the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals vacating the preliminary injunctions entered by District Court Judge Amir Ali concerning the freezing of international support funds that had beforehand been appropriated by Congress.

Wednesday’s loss column included Massachusetts Judge Myong Joun’s denial of the administration’s movement to vacate or keep his preliminary injunction in Victim Rights Law Center v. United States Department of Education (concerning the dismantling of the Department of Education). It also included D.C. Judge Jia Cobb’s denial of the administration’s movement for keep pending appeal in Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights v. Noem (concerning expedited removing for those on parole), and Western District of Washington Judge Marsha Pechman’s denial of the administration’s movement to dismiss in American Federation of Government Employees AFL-CIO v. Noem (concerning rescission of collective bargaining).

I’d merely counsel not to be discouraged by that seeming win-loss report for Wednesday. The win was a big win. The losses had been procedural pace bumps. 

COMING ATTRACTIONS

Friday’s focus shall be on Alaska, where President Trump is set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin to focus on bringing an end to the Russia-Ukraine warfare. Brace your self for all method of spin from the leftwing media, because you understand it is coming. 

MORNING MUSING

On Wednesday, I made a daring prediction about Trump (his administration) and the courts. That’s based on my years of expertise as a lawyer and my close following of a lot of the litigation. I’m also carefully following the Russiagate/Leakgate disclosures, but I’m not going to attempt and make any daring predictions as to where it all will lead — approach too many variables for me to get a assured read on how that will all shake out. 

I’ve been painstakingly working my approach through the disclosures, though — highlighting key items of data and taking notes. (Yes, I made another spreadsheet.) One factor I’ve realized is that a truthful quantity of this data was already on the market — heck, we reported on a lot of it back in the day. Not all of it was, though, and we did not then have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight to actually make a go at piecing all the pieces together. 

I’ve heaps of questions, of course. I’m cautiously optimistic that some of them will finally be answered. But the most important one of all — the proverbial $64,000 query — has me stumped: Why was thwarting Donald Trump value trashing it all?

I’m not speaking about on a regular basis people who’ve purchased into the notion that Trump is an existential menace to “our democracy” — to us all! They’ve been spoonfed a regular diet of Orange Man Bad for so long that they’ve little recourse but to merely rail against him as a lot as they’ll. I’m speaking about the Beltway Bunch — the profession bureaucrats and politicians, company heads, people who take great delight in their reputations and stature. Each and every one of them made a choice to bend and then break the foundations and mainly throw it all away in order to forestall his profitable the presidency (3 times) and gum it all up for him when he did. 

Why? Once we all know that for sure, the remainder of the puzzle will fall into place.
