Netflix viewers have days to watch eye-opening drama | UK News

Netflix viewers have just days left to watch an “eye-opening” period drama before it leaves the streaming service.

Adapted from Philippa Gregory’s 2001 novel of the same title, The Other Boleyn Girl hit screens in 2008.

The historic romantic drama adopted a fictionalised model of the live of sisters Mary and Anne Boleyn.

The former was the mistress of King Henry VIII, though it was her sister who grew to become his second spouse, fated to death.

Beginning while Henry is married to his brother’s widow Catherine of Aragon and Anne’s uncle’s plot to set up her as Henry’s mistress, the movie follows the historic story through Henry’s first divorce, declaring himself head of the Church of England, Anne marrying Henry and giving start to a daughter Elizabeth, and Henry turning to Jane Seymour before beheading Anne.

The Other Boleyn Girl starred Natalie Portman as Anne, Scarlett Johansson as Mary, and Eric Bana as Henry III.

The solid also included Jim Sturgess, Mark Rylance, Kristin Scott Thomas, David Morrissey, Benedict Cumberbatch, Oliver Coleman, and Ana Torrent.

It has been hailed a “great watch” from followers, but is now set to depart Netflix by September 1.

One fan wrote: “Great movie! Didn’t realize it was based on a.. no THE story of Queen Elizabeth’s beginning. Totally eye opening.”

Another said: “this is literally the best movie I’ve seen so far in my history of watching movies lol.”

Someone else wrote: “Nothing to say but “wow”. I went in expecting this to be a fairly boring court drama, but it reeled me in and held my attention to the very end. Natalie Portman shines in the most devious, yet sympathetic, role I’ve ever seen her in, and Scarlett Johannson was the perfect counterbalance. Strongly recommend this one…”

“Acting is excellent, costumes are lush and well made with saturated colors. A great historical drama feast for the mind. I’ve watched the movie several times and enjoy it each time,” a fourth commented.

Natalie beforehand spoke about what drew her into the function, telling The Independent in a 2008 interview: “What I like about this film is that audiences initially assume The Other Boleyn Girl refers to Mary because everyone knows about Anne Boleyn and so they go: ‘Oh, but there was this other Boleyn girl who was also the king’s mistress before her sister became queen.’

“But each of them has their own turn at being ‘the other’ Boleyn girl. And I think in a family with siblings – I mean, I’m an only child so I can only imagine – you take turns at being the prominent one, especially with two young women where, at different times, one of them seems to be the more powerful one.”
