This TikTookay Influencer Broke Down In Tears While Blaming ChatGPT For Making Her Miss Her Flight, And People Are Truly Baffled | Latest Travel News
Here’s a phrase of warning to anybody who is likely to be placing a liiiittle an excessive amount of religion in AI: Always do your own research — particularly if there is likely to be costly penalties.

On Aug. 13, a Spanish content creator called Mery Caldass posted a video on TikTookay of her sobbing in an airport after lacking her flight to Puerto Rico. She wasn’t in a position to make the journey due to the fact that she didn’t put together the correct paperwork, which, she says, is the fault of ChatGPT — an AI assistant used by 500 million people every week.

“I asked ChatGPT and he said no,” she says in Spanish, as she remembers asking the AI device if she would need a visa to fly to Puerto Rico.
For context, a visa shouldn’t be needed for European Union residents to enter Puerto Rico if their keep doesn’t exceed 90 days. However, guests still must full the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (better identified as an ESTA), which is an software that is completed online in advance of a journey to decide a particular person’s eligibility to enter the United States.

Realizing her error, Caldass says through tears: “That’s what I get for not getting more information…I don’t trust that one anymore.” Referring to ChatGPT, she also suggests that the data mix-up might need been “his revenge” for when she had beforehand insulted the bot.
Since the clip was posted, it’s gained consideration across TikTookay and other social media websites. On Reddit, customers discussing the video mirrored on the current surge in the use of AI assistants and expressed disbelief that people are relying solely on ChatGPT for issues like journey advice.

“We’re so cooked,” one common remark read. “I wouldn’t even trust ChatGPT to tell me if the sky is blue let alone rely on it for airport/flight info,” said another.
“People will do anything but look at the actual government websites,” one person wrote, while another person questioned if the broader development is due to “low rates of media literacy.”
“It feels like the low rates of media literacy have led to so many people having no idea how to find reputable data sources, so they just trust AI when they ask it questions because they figure it got the data [from] somewhere,” they wrote. “But the problem is you still should verify the sources it drew from. I’ve caught it being entirely wrong several times and quoting questionable sources.”
“Why is ChatGPT the first step and not, idk, googling the airport’s website or flight number?” added another person, who talked about the increase in people utilizing ChatGPT for important journey data.
Of course, it’s price noting that ChatGPT will be helpful for some people, significantly for issues like making lists or serving to with phrasing. (In July, OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, said the device now “thinks and acts” after a new update.) However, most people agree that it’s still fairly important to research issues your self, too.
So, what do you make of this? I personally can’t assume of something worse than relying on ChatGPT to give me the data I need about flying across the world, but that’s just me.
