Vera Farmiga opens up on her terrifying health issue | UK News

Hollywood scream queen Vera Farmiga has admitted that the horrors of The Conjuring collection don’t just keep on screen; they observe her home. The 52-year-old actress, who has starred in the billion-dollar ghost-hunting franchise since 2013, revealed she’s been left with weird cross-shaped bruises “every time” she steps into her character, Lorraine Warren’s footwear.

“Yeah, I get battered,” Vera told E!News, dismissing questions about her mysterious injuries. “It depends whether it’s upside down or not, whether they’re crosses or upside-down crosses. I guess it depends on how I show you my leg.” Farmiga, who is about to reprise her position for the fourth and closing spine-chiller, The Conjuring: Last Rites, admitted she doesn’t often focus on the bruises, fearing she’ll “sensationalise” the tales. But in the past, she has shared chilling photographs of cross-shaped marks on her thigh, sparking hypothesis about a supernatural trigger.

Her co-star Patrick Wilson also strives to keep away from sensationalising the story out of respect for the people the movie is based on. “I’ve said this in response to even what Vera’s talking about, with stuff that’s happened on set. I think anytime something happens in real life, I never sensationalise it. There’s a lot of unexplained things and anytime you’re dealing with real people, real families, real friends, that’s much bigger than any of this sort of stuff.'”

Whether paranormal or just a coincidence, the eerie occasions are only fuelling pleasure for the franchise’s grand finale, which opens in cinemas and IMAX on 5 September 2025. The closing movie, directed by Michael Chaves, will reunite Farmiga with co-star Patrick Wilson for one last ghostly investigation as real-life consultants Ed and Lorraine Warren.
