Benches clear in Mets-Marlins game after Mark…

The Mets’ struggle arrived in the seventh.

During a game they have been being shut out through six and a half disappointing innings, the Mets might have taken offense to Sandy Alcántara hitting Mark Vientos with a pitch, main to both benches and bullpens emptying but nothing more.

With a runner on first and no one out during a game the Mets trailed, 5-0, the Marlins ace grazed Vientos with a 90.4 mph changeup.

Vientos and Alcántara locked eyes and exchanged phrases as Alcántara continued strolling toward the Mets DH, separated by home plate umpire Austin Jones.

An animated Alcántara saved speaking and had to be held back as Vientos slowly walked his approach toward first base, not reaching the bag before all the rosters of the Mets and Marlins have been huddled around the mound.

There have been some seemingly offended phrases said and some pleasant ones, a few hugs exchanged.

But no punches or shoves have been seen, and order was shortly restored.
