Where Paul O’Gradys animals are now after death | UK News

Paul O’Grady was well-known for his love of animals and he devoted a lot of his life to rescuing and rehoming canines in need before shifting on to other animals, including pigs and alpacas. The presenter had 5 rescue canines – Nancy, Arfur, Conchita, Eddie and Sausage – when he died in March 2023.

As properly as welcoming his pets onto The Paul O’Grady Show and presenting ITV’s For the Love of Dogs, he was an ambassador for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and a patron for Orangutan Appeal UK and Wildlife SOS. He and his husband Andre Portasio shared their home with the canines, chickens, pigs, sheep, goats and alpacas – though Paul sadly misplaced one of his pricey pet pigs, Tom Tom, just before his death. Sharing how many animals Paul had, his close pal Malcolm Prince told Express.co.uk: “It’s weird to think he’s not still in that house, surrounded by those animals. When I used to go, we would go for a walk around the duck pond and then we would go and see the chickens and he had a couple of owls too. Then if you carried on walking down a bit, there were the pigs and then another little house that he had built for the alpacas. He started with three of those and then they had babies.

“I used to love the fact that he named them all. And, with the canines in explicit, he talked to them all, and sometimes they talked back! He was a real life Doctor Dolittle.”

He continued: “On the last day with Paul, we had been truly speaking about death because some of his pigs had began to die. It sounds horrible, but that they had to be put to sleep because they had been unwell.

“But, by God, he cared about those animals. He would get up at five in the morning to go and feed them and care for them even though he really hated getting up early!”

“The pigs were relocated to a sanctuary and they are very happy. Joan [Paul’s friend] is still in contact with the lady who looks after them.

“The canines are all appeared after by Paul’s pal Moira. Paul was adamant that she ought to care for them, as she often did when he was away on business. So she has the canines now.

“And as for the rest of the animals, most of them have been relocated. It’s because the house is up for sale and no one wants to buy a house with a load of animals living there.”

Malcolm has shared other memorable moments with his close pal, Paul, in a new memoir – Paul O’Grady: Not The Same Without You.

The ebook is a treasure trove of anecdotes and recollections, all drawn from Malcolm’s in depth assortment of personal recordings and interviews with the people who knew Paul best.

It tells never-before-heard tales of the much-missed national treasure, that includes the great and the great of the leisure world, his unlikely friendship with the Queen, his departure from the BBC, and a ghost story of two thrown in for good measure.

Paul O’Grady – Not The Same Without You is offered from bookstores from November 6.
