Netflix has finally dropped the much-anticipated second season of a well-liked supernatural drama, based on a collection of hit novels.

Adapted from Anne Rice’s riveting trilogy of vampire novels, The Mayfair Witches stars Alexandra Daddario as Rowan Fielding, a neurosurgeon who stumbles upon a stunning revelation about her ancestry.

Upon discovering she’s the successor to a formidable line of witches, Rowan must grasp her newly found powers to protect her household from a sinister entity that has plagued them for generations, reviews the Mirror US.

In the second season, the Mayfair clan is torn asunder when Rowan’s grandfather Julien Mayfair (Ted Levine) double-crosses the witches in a determined energy grab. Meanwhile, Rowan grapples with the malevolent spirit Lasher (Jack Huston), who ages quickly after being reborn and sure to her.

Despite not garnering stellar reviews, with a current Rotten Tomatoes rating of just 59 %, the collection has cultivated a fervent cult following. Fans are hooked on the Mayfairs’ secret skirmishes and Rowan’s twisted love triangle with Lasher and Ciprien Grieve (Tongayi Chirisa).

A glowing 10/10 review on IMDb has hailed Mayfair Witches as a “fantastic” collection that’s “nearly as good as the books”.

“Anne Rice is a fantastic writer and the series is just as good,” the enthusiastic viewer continued.

“I was hooked as soon as I started watching and couldn’t believe I watched them all so quickly. All the characters were as I imagined and even though I read these books nearly 30 years ago it all came flying back.

“I had watched Alexandra Daddario in the white lotus and she was completely forged as Rowan.”

Another viewer confessed: “I have never read the books. I believe it is very good!

“What a shame Anne Rice fans are disappointed in this series. Having not read the books, I watched it without expectation or prior knowledge, and it blew my mind!

“I’m not an avid fan of supernatural storylines, but I used to be swept away by the twists and turns and energy play of Mayfair Witches. What an journey! The seductive, possessive pressure frightened the residing daylights out of me. It actually did.

“I also loved the scenes where a character gets lost and a helper guides him back (I’m trying not to give too much away). Absolutely brilliant. I really hope the low rating doesn’t put people off. If you haven’t read the books you are in for a big surprise.”

A 3rd fanatic shared: “My wife and I really enjoyed this show. It was really well written. The characters are great, they really rope you in.

“I believe it is Alexandra Daddario’s best efficiency yet. Very fascinating and plausible. She actually anchors the show.”
