Im A Celeb star fumes it was boring as nasty | UK News

I’m A Celebrity star Barry McGuigan admitted that life in the jungle often grew to become “very boring” as campmates struggled to keep themselves entertained. The 64-year-old boxing icon appeared on last 12 months’s collection of the hit show, which was finally gained by his close buddy Danny Jones. With long stretches between Bushtucker Trials and challenges, the celebrities have been often left to come up with their own methods to cross the time. Speaking solely to Express.co.uk on behalf of Betway, Barry was requested what it was like behind-the-scenes and admitted there was one factor he loved doing when the camp grew quiet.

He confessed: “I have to tell you, it is pretty boring. They have got cameras on us all day and they edit it down with commercial breaks down to an hour. They have 24 hours to squeeze down into one hour and I used to lie down, go to sleep and recharge my batteries. They all started to take the p*** saying ‘here’s Barry recharging his batteries again’ and I would just be laying there with my hands folded across my chest taking a nap.”

Unfamiliar with the show and uncertain what jungle life can be like, Barry determined to watch clips from the earlier collection, which featured Sam Thompson, Nigel Farage, Fred Siriex, Tony Bellew and others.

Barry explained: “I didn’t watch the show a lot but I thought I am going in now so I better look at it and see what sort of atmosphere can transpire. I looked at the Fred Sirieix stuff and there was genuine animosity. Fred and a few others got very nasty and fought each other, they were b******* about each other and it was horrible.”

He continued: “I’m sure it must be more difficult when there is a genuine bit of animosity between each other because there is nowhere to go. You can’t escape and you can’t suddenly run off and spend six hours in the jungle having a shower.

“You can stroll down to the creek and stroll back up but there aren’t a lot of locations to go.”

Thankfully for Barry, the celebrities in the 2024 series former incredibly strong bonds.

He added: “But we all acquired on so properly together and there was no falling out in anyway. We all acquired on great and it was straightforward.”

With hunger proving a constant challenge in the camp, Barry explained that forming friendships helped distract from these difficulties.

He said: “I misplaced about 15–16 kilos of weight when I was in there. Some misplaced more. Richard Coles misplaced practically two stone. You can lose masses of weight. It’s powerful. Really powerful. Especially if you’re not getting on with people.

“That’s why you try your best to get on with people. We all got on brilliantly, I was so blessed to have such a lovely group of people. We still have a WhatsApp group. Danny’s invited me to McFly at the O2 and watch him perform. Me and Danny in particular are good friends.”
