This 12 months’s Golden Globes held a fleeting tribute to the late Rob Reiner, which some viewers could have missed.

The awards ceremony occurred at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, California, with Nikki Glaser returning as host for the second 12 months operating. Tragically, just a month before the Golden Globes aired, Rob Reiner and his spouse, Michele, had been brutally murdered in their home.

Reiner was famend for directing a number of cherished movies, including When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride, A Few Good Men, and variations of Stephen King’s novels, Misery and Stand By Me. He also had memorable performing roles in TV reveals like New Girl and motion pictures like The Wolf of Wall Street.

It comes as Leonardo DiCaprio was brutally stopped by security at the Golden Globes for violating a strict rule.

After a heartfelt tribute at the Critics’ Choice Awards a week before the Golden Globes, many anticipated a important homage during the In Memoriam segment–and had been shocked when it did not occur.

Many fans immediately turned to X, previously identified as Twitter, to specific their disbelief that not only was Reiner not honored, but no notable celebrities who handed away in 2025 had been, as the In Memoriam phase was utterly omitted, studies he Mirror US

“Why was there no in memoriam at the Golden Globes?? Isn’t there always? Really disappointing to say the least,” one particular person posted.

However, while some expressed disappointment that the phase appeared to be lacking, they also seen that host Nikki Glaser appeared to make a delicate nod to Reiner at the end of the show, referencing one of his most iconic movies.

Taking the stage one last time to wrap up the night, she donned a black robe adorned with silver accents–topped off with a black baseball cap bearing the phrases “Spinal Tap.

“Well, that’s our show. This one went to 11,” she declared.

Sharp-eyed viewers immediately caught the reference to the hat and the “going to 11” quip, both nods to This is Spinal Tap–which Reiner helmed. Yet, despite applauding Glaser’s homage, many voiced disappointment that a broader in memoriam segment wasn’t included in the broadcast.

“It’s good that Nikki Glaser did a small tribute to Rob Reiner at the end of the show, but when did #GoldenGlobes stop doing an In Memoriam??? Because there have been some fairly notable of us that died this past 12 months,” one viewer commented.

“A great loving nod by @NikkiGlaser to Rob Reiner with the Spinal Tap hat at the end of the Golden Globes,” another wrote. “Sad there was no memorial.”

Yet, despite viewer confusion over the missing segment, such tributes have never been standard practice at the Golden Globes–unlike the Emmys, Critics’ Choice, Oscars, and other major awards ceremonies that regularly feature them.

Glaser herself addressed this during a pre-show conversation, noting she planned to approach her tribute to Reiner “delicately.

“I knew him, but not really well, and it’s delicate, because we don’t really have an In Memorium, so there’s not a whole section set aside to honor everyone we’ve lost. But I have something planned that I’m going to do in my own way to just acknowledge him and celebrate him in my own way,” she said at the time.”

Reiner and his wife, Michele, were discovered dead in their Los Angeles residence on December 14. The pair was found by their daughter, Romy Reiner, after they failed to show up for a scheduled massage appointment.

Their son, Nick Reiner, now faces first-degree murder charges in connection with his parents’ deaths. At his initial court appearance, the 32-year-old appeared in a suicide prevention vest and declined to enter a plea.

Nick has battled addiction and mental health issues throughout his life. He penned the semi-autobiographical movie Being Charlie, which his renowned father also helmed, chronicling a young man’s repeated stints in rehab and his troubled family dynamics.

Between the ages of 15 and 19, Nick cycled through rehabilitation centers 18 times. Collaborating on the film proved therapeutic for both Rob and Nick, with Rob openly discussing in interviews how he and his wife had erred by failing to truly hear their son.

“When Nick would inform us that it wasn’t working for him, we would not pay attention. We had been determined, and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should always have been listening to our son,” Rob said during an LA Times interview.

Records also show that the Los Angeles Police Department had been summoned to the Reiner residence on a number of events throughout the years. Documents secured by the Daily Mail point out officers responded to calls in 2013, 2014, 2017, and on two separate events in 2019.

These emergency calls concerned issues ranging from routine mental health welfare checks to studies of home disputes.
