Donald Trump has announced that nations doing business with Iran may have to pay a 25% tariff on business carried out with the U.S.
The president made the announcement through a Truth Social post on Monday, saying the order is “final and conclusive.” He wrote, “Effective immediately, any Country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a Tariff of 25% on any and all business being done with the United States of America.”
The announcement comes as Trump said the U.S. can be “screwed” if he misplaced his Supreme Court ruling on tariffs. The U.S. has repeatedly threatened Tehran with navy motion if the Trump administration discovered the Ismalic Republic was utilizing lethal pressure against antigovernment protesters.
Trump said he believes Iran is “starting to cross” the road and as left him and his national security staff weighing “Very strong options.”
China, Brazil, Turkey, and Russia are some of the nations that do business with Tehran.
It comes after Trump said Iran desires to negotiate with Washington after the president threatened to strike the country after a crackdown on protesters left at least 599 people useless.
Iran has yet to react to Trump’s feedback. It’s also unclear what the country may promise, as Trump has set strict calls for over its nuclear program and ballistic missile arsenal, which Tehran states is crucual for its national protection.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told overseas diplomats in Tehran that “the situation has come under total control” in a speech that blamed Israel and the U.S. for violence, but did not offer evidence.

However, Araghchi said Iran was “open to diplomacy.” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that conversations with the U.S. are still potential, but talks needed to be “based on the acceptance of mutual interests and concerns, not a negotiation that is one-sided, unilateral and based on dictation.”
Meanwhile, pro-government protesters gathered on the streets on Monday in help of the theocracy after days of protests difficult the rule of Supreme Leader Ayatolla Ali Khamenei. Iranian state media aired chants from the group, who shouted “Death to America!” and “Death to Israel!”
