Kelvin Fletcher confronted a important blow as he confessed the issue risked “disaster” on his farmstead.
The ex-Emmerdale actor and his spouse Liz embarked on their farming enterprise in 2021 after buying a 120-acre property in Wincle, close to Macclesfield.
The couple have been sharing their farming expertise on their ITV programme Fletchers’ Family Farm, and in Monday’s (January 26) instalment, it seems they’re confronted with quite a few challenges.
Trouble arose when shifting weather situations threw their preparations into chaos, with substantial snowfall blanketing the farm.
Speaking about the predicament, Kelvin remarked: “One thing we’ve learned about living in the Peak District is how changeable the weather can be and after a week of decent weather, it’s turned.”

The tv persona acknowledged: “When the weather changes, so do our plans and our priority is bringing in the next batch of pregnant animals as this cold snap could mean disaster for their lambs.”
Kelvin and Liz sprang into motion without hesitation, readying the farm for the meteorological shift. The former cleaning soap actor outlined their strategy: “There’s light to heavy snow for the next four hours. I’m just thinking if we quickly prep these and go and get the sheep in.”
He continued with concern: “If the temperature drops so bad the mums will instinctively think that this is not good, I wanna get my lamb out. And if it’s a bit of a rain shower, then they get wet. There’s a good chance we could get pneumonia.”
He continued: “I think you always have to be pretty adaptive, especially where we are. We now are just feedable sea level. You know, we’re up north, we are glorious sunshine yesterday, 89 degrees, it felt like a proper spring day.

“And then today, nicely, I’ve just observed on the water trough, that it is all iced over, my palms are freezing, you have just gotta assume fast and assume on your ft, actually.”
Undeterred by the wintry conditions, the pair pressed on with tackling the problem as Kelvin explained: “So we’re just lining the ground now, to help draw in any moisture that’s based over there. It’s just good to variety of kill any bacteria. Stall’s cleaned and bedding laid. It’s time to get the sheep in before this weather will get any worse.”
Meanwhile, during another segment, heartstrings were tugged as the family welcomed visitors to their inaugural public gathering. Marnie highlighted the vital role of livestock care whilst tending to orphaned lamb Aga.
New arrival Bruce the boar made his debut on the property to boost pig-breeding prospects, whilst Kelvin and Liz got stuck into refurbishing the farm cottage, transforming it into a holiday let to generate additional revenue.
