Scottie Scheffler acknowledged he is dealing with a difficult place at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am after two “pretty frustrating” days.

On Friday, Scheffler – who got here into the first signature event of the 2026 PGA Tour season as the overwhelming betting favourite to win – posted a 6-under 66 at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Despite delivering a considerably improved efficiency from the opening spherical, when he shot an even-par 72, the 29-year-old confessed it still fell short of his expectations.

“I mean, I felt like I played better again than my score today, which is pretty frustrating,” Scheffler told reporters. “But was able to get some stuff going on the back nine. So at least a respectable score today versus yesterday, wasn’t very respectable.”

Scheffler made little effort to conceal his frustration while struggling to set up his rhythm during the first 9 holes. After a short missed putt on the thirteenth gap, he immediately buried his face in his fingers while shaking his head.

“Good birdie on 6, and then yeah, good chip-in on 7, which is always good to steal one, particularly on a day where I felt I used to be giving them away again. So it was good to steal one there.”

Following the impressive comeback, Scheffler now sits tied for 34th heading into the weekend. Whilst the four-time major winner has “inched” his way up the standings, he acknowledged that claiming victory on Sunday would require something extraordinary.

“I’d say ‘inched’ could be the operative phrase there,” he said. “We’ll see how it shakes out at the end of the day.

“I mean, it’s going to take two pretty special rounds, really three special rounds, but you’re never out of it. We’ll see what happens with the weather. I’ll go practice a little bit and then rest up and get ready for tomorrow.”

To Scheffler’s credit, he started the WM Phoenix Open earlier this month at 2-over 73 before mounting a exceptional recovery to secure a T-3 end.

Coming into this week, he had compiled an unimaginable 17 straight top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour – representing the longest such run since Billy Casper in 1965.
