In a resurfaced interview from two years in the past, Savannah Guthrie opened up about a personal tragedy that affected her whole family deeply.

This comes as the Today Show host and family face misery and struggling once again with the disappearance of her 84-year-old mom, Nancy Guthrie. On February 1, Nancy was reported lacking from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Authorities consider Nancy was kidnapped from her home against her will.

In a podcast interview from iHeartwork collection, Now What?, which was launched on August 8, 2023, host Brooke Shields spoke with the host about the death of her father, Charles Guthrie. In 1988, Savannah, now 54, was a teenager at her high college when her father, Charles, 49, died from a coronary heart assault while on the job in Mexico.

She described how the tragic event affected her siblings, Annie and Camron, and her mother-turned-widow, Nancy, which in the end introduced them nearer together.

The NBC star shared that her high college days had been “a difficult time for my family.”

She choked up, “They were distracted. There was a lot of hardships my family was going through. My grandparents moved in with us. My grandfather passed away. My father had a heart attack. He died when I was 16. I was a junior in high school.”

Later, the NBC star continued, “When I was 13, he had a heart attack. I think I was a freshman in High School. I don’t think we understood how serious that was. Three years later, he had another heart attack, and that was fatal. It was so unexpected.”

Sheilds, now 60, requested, “How does a loss of that magnitude change you in the years?”

“It changes everything. I think of it like B.C. and A.C. There’s a stark dividing line. There’s before my dad died, and there’s after. It’s profound. Grief is a lifelong process. I really believe that,” the TV star answered.

On February 12, the TV star shared an all-new video on social media relating to the disappearance of her mom.

She took to Instagram and shared an previous home video from when she was a youngster.

The video was captioned, “Our lovely mom. We will never give up on her. Thank you for your prayers and hope.”
