More Local Police Choosing to Work With ICE, Not

Since the Trump administration started mass deportation operations, Democrats and the Left have been dropping their collective minds. Despite immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) brokers being charged with getting rid of “the worst of the worst” of unlawful immigrants, the Left insists on placing unlawful immigrants forward of American residents and impeding ICE operations at every flip. In many blue cities and states, local law enforcement is prohibited from cooperating with ICE. Much to the chagrin of the left,  however, that could also be altering.

According to new data by FWD.US, a nonpartisan coverage group, collaborations between local law enforcement and ICE brokers that allow police officers to make federal immigration arrests have seen a sharp increase during the first 12 months of Trump 2.0. In the first 12 months of Trump’s second time period alone, arrests by local officers have risen by 950 p.c. As of January 26, 1,168 local companies have officers educated to help ICE brokers. That’s up from just 135 during the Biden administration, and 150 at the end of Trump’s first time period.

Part of the uptick in local help stems from the revival of a “task force” model in which officers are “deputized” so they’re ready to stop and arrest people if they’ve purpose to consider they’re in the nation illegally. But as may be anticipated, blue cities in in any other case purple states could have a drawback. In October of 2025, Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux turned down a $25 million partnership with ICE, even after Mayor Eric Johnson urged other elected officers to “explore the potential advantages” from such a program. The chief said that he was involved that officers could be pulled away from their regular duties. In blue Montgomery County, Maryland, the district attorney, along with the police chiefs affiliation, launched a assertion which read in half:

The Montgomery County Detective Bureau and police departments in Montgomery County don’t implement civil immigration orders; enforceable warrants must be signed by a decide.

In other purple states like Louisiana, Republican governors have left local law enforcement with no selection. In May of 2025, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry signed an government order that directed state and local law enforcement to help ICE operations.

The 287(g) program affords a profitable deal to local law enforcement. It contains $7,500 per officer for gear, $100,000 for new autos, and extra time pay of up to 25 p.c of an officer’s wage. There are 39 states where law enforcement assists ICE. Not surprisingly, purple states are the most probably individuals, with Florida topping the record at 324 agreements, Texas with 296, Tennessee with 63, and Alabama with 52. Even swing state Pennsylvania has joined the combo with 58 help packages.

The American public also appears to be on the aspect of local and federal cooperation. Two latest polls show that an overwhelming majority of Americans, including Democrats, favor the deportation of unlawful immigrants and assist ICE implementing immigration legal guidelines. What is it going to take for Democrats and the left to determine that Tom Homan and the boys usually are not going anyplace anytime soon?
