Trump and Putin hold a frank discussion on | Political News
The Kremlin said that President Donald Trump and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin mentioned the battle in Iran, with the dialog being “frank and businesslike”, according to Putin’s overseas affairs advisor Yuri Ushakov.
The dialog last roughly an hour, Ushakov added. Putin “voiced a few ideas aimed at a quick political and diplomatic settlement” of the battle on Iran after he spoke with Gulf leaders and Iran’s president, the overseas affairs advisor said.
This was the first publically identified call between Trump and Putin since the battle with Iran.
At a press convention on Monday, Trump also acknowledged he spoke to Putin.
“We talked about that with President Putin. He was very impressed with what he saw because nobody’s ever seen quite like it.”
Trump also provided his input “in the context of the continuing U.S-Israeli operation,” Ushakov said.
The two leaders had a “particular and useful” exchange of views. They also touched on Venezuela “in the context of the scenario in the global oil market.”
Putin provided the U.S president “a number of proposals” for ending the war with Iran, Ushakov added.
Earlier on Monday Putin shared Russia had “repeatedly warned that makes an attempt to destabilize the scenario in the Middle East will inevitably jeopardize” the economy, such as the global energy market.
Putin said Moscow will continue to provide oil and gas to “international locations that themselves are dependable companions,” such as Slovakia or Hungary. He noted Moscow is a “dependable vitality provider.” He also added Russia is “rising provides” to its partners.
The Trump administration is nearing the three week mark after it struck Iran on Feb. 28, which killed its country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Supreme Leader’s son, Mojtaba, was chosen as the next leader on Sunday.
The war has since killed over a thousand in Iran along with 30 killed in the Gulf and over 400 killed in Iraq, Israel, Jordan and Lebanon combined, according to Al Jazeera’s live tracker.
