Cameron Young attends church with family ahead of | Golf News

On Sunday, Cameron Young will do exactly what he did ahead of the ultimate spherical of The Players: attend church with his family.

The 28-year-old captured the so-called “fifth major” last month, edging out Matt Fitzpatrick for the title. Now, he’ll tee off in the ultimate pairing on Masters Sunday as co-leader. An excellent spherical of 65 has lifted Young to a share of the lead after Rory McIlroy struggled and dropped back one stroke to 11-under.

However, the fact he is teeing off as a co-leader vying for a Green Jacket will not alter his preparations. Faith holds significance for Young and he’ll still be attending church.

When requested if it will be difficult to match in a church go to, he responded: “It might, but it’s not going to stop us, I think. I don’t know where we’re going to go yet, but we’ll find somewhere and take the kids. We’ll be out in full force just like usual.”

Young mentioned earlier in the week his church attendance before capturing The Players. “Yeah, our faith is very important to us,” he said. “It’s something that I feel like brings us together. It’s very important, I think, for all of us to kind of have that part of our lives be a central portion of what we do, individually and as a family.

“It’s a good alternative for us to be together, to type of share one thing together. Yeah, we discover a different church every week. Wherever we’re, we discover mass to go to. That week it occurs to be proper by the golf course. So it is a little bit different pulling in in the event car, unloading my children out, and having people type of look at you the entire time.

“I get a lot of really, really nice comments, people saying, hey, thanks for setting a great example for my children or whatever it is. Honestly it’s great to hear because I don’t feel like that’s the case all the time, and that’s one area where I’m really happy to be able to bring attention to that part of our life. I just think it’s a great opportunity to show other people that’s what we do.”

Young will be a part of McIlroy in Sunday’s last pairing, though he harbors no illusions about being the group’s favourite.

“I don’t get the sense I’ll be the fan favorite, but yeah, I feel like the support, some fans that cheer for me have gotten louder over the last year. It will still be lopsided, I think. Rory’s kind of a world favorite in the golf world,” he acknowledged.

“A year ago, if I’d been in the same situation, there would have been very little, and now there’s probably a little more. So I’ll take what I can get, and I’ll be happy with that.”

The admiration seems mutual between the 2 golfers. McIlroy competed alongside the American on Thursday and Friday, leaving him with a favorable impression. “I’d like to think that I’ll play a little bit freer and I’ll play, you know, like I’ve already got a Green Jacket, which I do,” he said after his spherical of 73.

“Sometimes I maybe just have to remind myself of that, but I think as well that the stakes in terms of, like, the pairing will be just a little bit easier. You know, the atmosphere out there will be a little bit easier.

“Yeah, I’m not nervous about that at all. I want I used to be a few photographs better off, but I’m comfy. I performed with Cam the first two days. Playing with him again tomorrow. I feel it is a comfy group for both of us.”
