Good Morning Britain hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid have been joined on Monday’s version of the ITV show by the Minister for Equalities, Olivia Bailey, as they addressed why the federal government hasn’t up to date the steering for single intercourse areas following the Supreme Court’s ruling.

It comes amid studies Baroness Kishwer Falkner accused the Women and Equalities Minister, Bridget Phillipson, of holding back from publishing steering on girls’s proper to single-sex areas amid fears it might impression any potential promotion and prioritising her “personal ambition”.

Speaking on the programme, Ed Balls said: “Baroness Falkner says that you are showing cowardice. She says that Bridget Phillipson is putting personal ambition ahead of the interests of women. She says the reason you are not producing this guidance is because it’s controversial.”

The GMB host went on to declare that it is onerous for companies and public areas to know what the law means and added this is the rationale steering is required.

Bailey said she categorically rejected the claims made by Falkner but suggested the Labour authorities will produce the steering ahead once it is availble.

“I’m not able to give you specific times Ed,” the Minister for Equalities commented.

The former Labour MP grilled Bailey as she was left stuttering on air, as Ed quizzed: “So if you are a business or a college and you have a toilet for women, an a toilet for men, do you as an employer or a school leader, do you have to police who goes into the women’s toilet to ensure they are biologically a woman?”

Bailey replied: “No the law does not require the policing of toilets. If they are unclear what the law is they should seek legal advice.”

Ed grilled the minister additional as he was admittedly left confused by her responses.

“The Supreme Court judgment, a year ago, to me says, that the women’s toilets should only be for biological women,” he remarked. “And therefore if you are allowing a non-biological woman into the toilets, you’re breaking the law. You’ve just said that isn’t correct. I’m confused.”

Bailey had a puzzled expression on her face as he questioned when steering can be launched.

She replied: “This country is not about policing toilets, ok. The Supreme Court judgement is clear.”

Ed interjected: “What does the Supreme Court judgement require an employer to do about a single sex toilet?”

“It should be provided on the basis of biological sex,” Bailey replied.

Nearly a yr after the Supreme Court ruling, Phillipson has not yet revealed the up to date code despite it being despatched for authorities sign-off.
