Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has hit out at US president Donald Trump’s weird post that noticed him portrayed as Jesus Christ in an AI-generated image. The image, origianally posted on Truth Social, has been taken down following a livid backlash.

The image confirmed Mr Trump sporting a white robe with a crimson scarf draping down and palms glowing with divine mild, as he appeared to heal a sick affected person in a hospital mattress while a soldier, a nurse and others seemed on in adoration. The US president defended his now-deleted post: “It wasn’t a depiction. I did post it and I thought it was me as a doctor. And had to do with red cross as a red cross worker, which we support and only the fake news could come up with that one. It’s supposed to be me as a doctor making people better and I do make people better.”

In an interview with Frank Sesno, Ms Pelosi was invited to discuss about the subject on Power and Precedent: The Fight for the American Idea. At one level, the journalist talked about Donald Trump‘s AI-generated portrait and requested: “What was going on?”

The former speaker answered: “You would have to ask a psychiatrist. As a devout Catholic, we wear these bracelets that say ‘Faith and Charity’ – if you believe in the goodness of the American people, that gives people hope. And very prayerfully, I wear these.

“When I see the president himself — I can’t even converse. You said it. And then he has flames popping out of his palms. It is not even worthy of a dialog. It’s worthy of a diagnosis.”

Ms Pelosi also believed that Trump’s purpose was to distract the public about his comments towards Pope Leo XIV. In a series of posts published last week, Trump labelled the head of the Catholic Church ‘weak’ on crime and ‘terrible’ on foreign policy.

The former Speaker said: “I consider in the Pope […] To see him desecrated by whatever you need to call that is just a – but you understand what? We don’t agonise over that. We just organise about how we wish to go ahead. It is simply too distracting, that is the aim. To distract.”

Social media users shared their veiws on Ms Pelosi’s reaction, as one commented on X: “Nancy skipped the political reply completely and despatched him straight to a psychiatrist… that’s not a clapback, that’s a referral.”

Another said: “Savage but true, the lunatic in the White House ought to be in prison.” But one added: “Trump was despatched by God to save the world from dangerous people like Nancy Pelosi. I beloved that post about Trump.”
