Donald Trump has openly tried to insert himself into the highlight following Rory McIlroy’s back-to-back Masters victory.

On Sunday, McIlroy etched his identify in the document books at Augusta National, becoming a member of an elite group as only the fourth golfer ever to efficiently defend the Masters title, edging out Scottie Scheffler by a single stroke a 12 months after securing the profession Grand Slam in Georgia. With each year, Rory is becoming more and more a LEGEND!”

He added: “I look forward to watching him compete in two weeks at Doral. The quality of Professional Golfers today has become extraordinary, each and every one of them. They should all be proud of the way they played at The Masters this weekend!”

Sunday proved to be a grueling day for McIlroy, despite his exceptional opening two rounds of 67 and 65. A sluggish 73 on Saturday, mixed with Young’s blistering 65, worn out the commanding six-shot benefit he had established by Friday.

Young wasn’t the only challenger respiration down McIlroy’s neck heading into the ultimate spherical. Sam Burns entered Sunday at 10-under par, while McIlroy’s close buddy Shane Lowry was also lurking at 9-under par.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler also piled on the strain with a beautiful 65 on Saturday, inserting him at 7-under par for the event as the ultimate spherical approached.

Ultimately, however, Scheffler fell short of reeling in McIlroy. His closing 68 left him at 11-under par for the event, ending just one stroke behind the champion.
