Harris English issues Ryder Cup update after Woods | Golf News


The United States stays without a Ryder Cup captain for 2027, and PGA Tour skilled Harris English has revealed insights into how the crew is regrouping following their 2025 defeat.

English is competing against a number of European Ryder Cup veterans at the RBC Heritage and is raring for redemption at the 2027 biennial competitors.

“I want to get back,” English acknowledged. “I want to get back next year in Ireland. It always leaves a sour taste in your mouth when you lose. Been on a winning team and a losing team, and losing sucks. It hurt a lot.”

The United States claimed victory at the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, with English and his teammates celebrating effectively into the morning hours – unaware they may face a six-year wait for another triumph.

“I was a little more hungover after Whistling Straits,” English remarked. “I wasn’t really in the partying mood. Obviously you want to congratulate Team Europe for playing so well. I’m good buddies with a lot of those guys.

“But shedding sucks. It’s not as a lot enjoyable as profitable. We’ll get back. We’re going to variety of get back to the drafting board and get it proper for Ireland.”

The 36 year old is chasing the first-place $3.6 million prize at Harbour Town Golf Links, though European Ryder Cup standout Matt Fitzpatrick stands in his way, currently leading at 14-under.

“Obviously Bobby Mac can play in the wind very well,” said English. “Fitz is a good wind participant. Maybe there’s some actually good gamers from Europe; I feel that’s the factor. They’ve been enjoying actually, actually good all 12 months. They performed actually good at the Ryder Cup. I feel they’re just some actually good gamers.”

Harris acknowledged that such experiences enrich his career journey as the Tour veteran pursues his sixth PGA Tour victory. “Oh, 100%,” said English.

“I’ve had a lot of bumps and highway blocks in my profession, and it just makes you stronger and makes you better. Makes it more worthwhile when you play good golf, getting over some of those hurdles. I’ve had a lot in my profession. I’m in all probability going to have more of them. That’s just golf, and that’s life.”
