Fitzpatrick mocked caddie after McIlroy moment in | Golf News

Matt Fitzpatrick revealed that his caddie channeled a Harry Diamond impression after being pushed into a playoff by Scottie Scheffler, a lot to the amusement of Amanda Balionis.

The Englishman had an excellent week at Harbour Town, carrying a three-stroke benefit into Sunday’s closing spherical, but world No. 1 Scheffler mounted a late charge to trim that deficit to just one shot heading into the 18th gap.

Scheffler out-drove Fitzpatrick as the pair returned down the 18th for the playoff, yet the Englishman caught his method to within just 12 ft.

The world No. 1, by distinction, botched his method and left himself with a important problem, managing only to get his third shot within a few ft — though it proved irrelevant as he might only watch Fitzpatrick drain his 12-foot putt to declare victory.

Speaking with Balionis on the 18th inexperienced, European Ryder Cup standout Fitzpatrick disclosed that his caddie Daniel Parratt mimicked Rory McIlroy’s iconic line from last 12 months’s Masters to help him refocus forward of the playoff.

“Yeah, you know, he actually said getting to the tee, he said, we’d have taken this start of the week, and I know Rory said that the other week,” he said.

“I jokingly said to Dan, I was like, oh okay, here he is, Harry Diamond here. Yeah, we had a good laugh about that.

“I felt like I used to be in a great spot, and to hit the 4-iron that I hit there was out of this world.”

Fitzpatrick went on to reveal that he regards the RBC Heritage, which he has now claimed victory at twice, as being on par with any of the major championships on the tour calendar.

“Yeah, it means the world. It means the world,” he continued. “This is a event I wished to win growing up, arguably more than any of the majors before I understood about the sport.

“To win it twice means the world. To go out today and go toe-to-toe with Scottie and get over the line there on the 73rd is special.”
