Iran threatened to “face new cards on the battlefield” in an eerie new warning to the Trump administration, which has not progressed peace talks with the Islamic Republic.

In a Monday afternoon message posted on X, Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, wrote, “By implementing the blockade and violating the ceasefire, Trump wants to turn this negotiation table into a table of surrender or to justify a renewed war.”

“We do not accept negotiations under the shadow of threats, and in the last two weeks, we have prepared to face new cards on the battlefield.”

Despite the implementation of the two-week truce, President Donald Trump escalated tensions with Iran when he ordered a U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, cornering Iranian ships.

Iran finally announced the strait could be closed following the president’s choice.

On Sunday, Iran’s joint army command pledged to retaliate after the U.S. attacked and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship, claiming it had tried to keep away from its naval blockade close to the Strait of Hormuz.

It was the first interception since the U.S. initiated its blockade of Iranian ports last week. According to the official media, Iran’s unified army command described the armed boarding as a violation of the ceasefire and an act of piracy.

With the U.S.-Iran standoff over the strait sharpening and the ceasefire expiring by Wednesday, it was not clear where President Donald Trump ’s earlier announcement on new talks with Iran now stood. He had said U.S. negotiators would head to Pakistan on Monday.
