Jerry Jones practically misplaced his footing in his rush to welcome former President Bill Clinton on Wednesday. The Dallas Cowboys’ proprietor, president, and basic supervisor is concentrated on the 2026 NFL Draft as a means to strengthen the franchise following a lackluster 7-9 marketing campaign.

While addressing the media on Wednesday, the 83-year-old was outlining the group’s strategy when Clinton walked into the room. “They do a great job and they’re a big part of what sports and NFL is about.” Believing no other staff can have a former president go to them during a presser, Jones boldly claimed: “And this unquestionably will be the largest press conference going on in the NFL today.”

Beyond welcoming the previous president, Jones and the group also revealed they’d not pursue a long-term deal with George Pickens, opting instead to make the most of the franchise tag to retain him. Pickens has yet to signal. Jones additional acknowledged the challenges of paying both Pickens and CeeDee Lamb “top of the market” contracts, with the latter presently rating as the fourth-highest-paid receiver at $34 million per season.

“I mean that’s obviously a stretch, especially when you have other great players on your team,” Jones continued, according to ESPN. “A quarterback that’s been here, being the highest-paid player in this league for many years now. Certainly, that’s part of it. The other thing is the newness of George being here.

“I believe George has just completed an superb job. I imply he is exceeded all expectations, I believe, [of] anyone or we would not have gotten for a third-round decide. So that’s a plus.

“And a lot of those things, they make their way toward a long-term deal, but that’s the biggest part of it — between the business and newness of it, I think that’s a big part of it.”

The 2026 NFL Draft is scheduled to happen from April 23-25 in Pittsburgh.
