Actor Prakash Raj is going through legal complaints after Bhanu Prakash, a board member of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and a BJP chief from Andhra Pradesh, accused him of making “defamatory and malicious remarks” that allegedly distorted the Ramayana and disrespected Hindu beliefs.
According to stories, Bhanu Prakash lodged an official complaint urging authorities to provoke legal proceedings not only against the actor but also against those who might have supported or inspired the statements. He additional called for strict motion, claiming such remarks might disturb communal concord.
The controversy stems from an look by Prakash Raj at the Kerala Literature Festival in January. During a session there, the actor spoke about a youngsters’s theatre efficiency that offered characters such as Rama, Lakshmana, Ravana and Shurpanakha in a trendy, satirical setting. The efficiency reportedly integrated references to fruits, funds and GST as half of its humour. Authorities are at present reviewing the complaints. No official response has been issued by Prakash Raj on the matter so far.
