President Donald Trump lobbed a spiky comment at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during an event at the White House about healthcare affordability.

A reporter told the president that Prince Harry would really like to see Trump do more to end the warfare in Ukraine. “Do you think it’s appropriate for a royal to make those comments ahead of the visit on Monday?”

“Prince Harry? How’s he doing?” Trump requested in 5 pointed phrases, before mentioning Meghan. “How’s his wife? Please give him my regard, okay?”

Trump then pivoted to say that Prince Harry does not communicate for the United Kingdom. “I think I’m speaking for the U.K. more than Prince Harry,” he said. “But I appreciate his advice very much, great advice.”

The reporter was referring to the Duke of Sussex’s call for America to defend Ukraine, saying it must honor its “role in global security.” Prince Harry is in Ukraine to ship remarks to the Kyiv Security Forum.

“The United States has a singular role in this story,” he said. “Not only because of its power, but because when Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons, America was part of the assurance that Ukraine’s sovereignty and borders would be respected.

“This is a second for American management – a second for America to show that it will probably honor its worldwide treaty obligations – not out of charity, but out of its enduring position in global security and strategic stability.”

The Duke also talked about that Russian President Vladimir Putin immediately said, “No nation advantages from the continued loss of life we’re witnessing.”

Many U.K. residents slammed the president’s comments, saying that Trump doesn’t speak for them. “Prince Harry’s father is visiting the U.S. next week, and I dare Trump to repeat this to his face,” wrote one person.

“I’m no fan of Harry and Meghan, but Harry, not like Trump, served his nation and has earned the appropriate to call for an end to the warfare in Ukraine.”

Another particular person wrote: “F–k off, Trump. You will NEVER communicate for me.”

King Charles’ visit

Trump said that next week’s state visit from King Charles and Queen Camilla could “completely” repair relations with the U.K. amid a rift with Keir Starmer. Relations between the president and U.K. prime minister have been strained in recent months, with Trump calling Starmer’s approach to the war in Iran “horrible.”

When asked if the upcoming visit from the King could help the relationship, Trump told the BBC, “Absolutely. He’s implausible. He’s a implausible man. Absolutely the reply is yes.”

“I do know him properly, I’ve recognized him for years,” Trump added. “He’s a courageous man, and he’s a great man. They would completely be a constructive.”

It comes after Starmer told parliament last week that the British monarchy is “an important reminder of the longstanding bonds and enduring relationship between our two international locations,” insisting that a special relationship is “far better than anybody who occupies any explicit workplace at any explicit time.”
