Trump to send envoys to Pakistan for Iran talks as | Political News

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed experiences that President Donald Trump is sending his particular envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan for peace talks over the weekend.

“I can verify that Special Envoy Witkoff and Jared Kushner will probably be off to Pakistan again tomorrow morning to have interaction in direct talks with representatives from the Iranian delegation,” Leavitt told Fox News on Friday afternoon.

A major participant who is not going to be attending is Vice President JD Vance, who just isn’t attending because Iran’s Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, just isn’t attending, officers told GWN.

But Vance will probably be on standby to journey to Islamabad if talks progress, and members of his employees will probably be in Pakistan and attending the negotiations.

Leavitt said Tehran reached out to Washington to facilitate the talks.

“The Iranians reached out as the president called on them to do and asked for this in-person conversation…we’re hopeful that it will be a productive conversation and hopefully move the ball forward toward a deal,” she told Fox’s John Roberts.

Following the breif Fox interview, Leavitt told reporters that President Trump is “always willing to give diplomacy a chance”.

She added that the U.S. hopes for constructive developments from the assembly, saying, “We will see.”

Kushner and Witkoff have been working with Iranian officers on a potential settlement on Tehran’s nuclear materials for months.

Earlier this week Trump said: “We’re going to end up with a great deal.” He also claimed Iran had “no choice” but to send a delegation to Pakistan.

He added he was ready to resume bombing if the talks failed.

Iran’s top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, insisted on Monday that Tehran wouldn’t negotiate “under the shadow of threat” and warned the nation had ready “new cards on the battlefield” if the struggle resumes.

Iran has demanded the instant release of the seized cargo ship and vowed retaliation, while the Pentagon confirmed American forces boarded another sanctioned tanker.

The latest developments underline how fragile the ceasefire stays, with the future of any peace talks now hanging in the steadiness.
