Emmerdale is at the moment exploring a hard-hitting plotline centered on fan-favourite character Cain Dingle, with a notably turbulent week forward for the Dales stalwart.

In current episodes of the ITV cleaning soap, Cain (performed by Jeff Hordley) was dealt the blow of an aggressive but localised prostate cancer diagnosis and is now dealing with imminent surgery, which he’s struggling to settle for.

Overwhelmed by the devastating diagnosis and the prospect of the beneficial treatment’s negative effects, Cain initially refused to go forward with his life-altering operation, fearing the impression it may need on his marriage to Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb).

Fortunately, he had a change of coronary heart. Next week, the day of Cain’s process finally arrives, and he does his best to put on a courageous face as Moira stands firmly by his facet.

Meanwhile, Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) is sitting down to breakfast at the café, visibly anxious about his father’s looming operation.

Over at the hospital, Cain is taken through to surgery, sending Kyle into a panic — though he’s soon put at ease upon studying that his dad’s prostate operation has gone easily.

Yet Cain’s sense of aid rapidly fades when he’s confronted with the fact of his catheter and turns into consumed by fears over probably everlasting incontinence.

As his anxiety deepens, Cain resorts to feigning pain to delay his discharge from the hospital, a lot to Moira’s exasperation.

Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) makes her means to the hospital to problem her grandfather over his self-pity, and her frank phrases are enough to finally persuade him to head home — though settling back into daily life proves far from easy.

The following day, Robert is working on the farm and, while investigating a sound in the barn, is struck from behind and rendered unconscious by Sam.

Robert awakens sure to a chair, dealing with a menacing Cain wielding a hammer, who insists that Robert must ‘pay’ for his actions. Will Cain kill Robert for placing his spouse in jail?
