Just in Time for Cinco de Mayo, We Get Spicy Alito | Political News
Tuesday, May 5, 2026
Good morning, and welcome to RedState’s “Morning Minute” — a transient glimpse at which tales are trending at the second and a look forward at what the day might convey. Consider this your one-stop store for news to kickstart your day.
TOP O’ THE MORNIN’
Red-Hot at RedState
SCOTUS Fast-Tracks Callais Ruling; Ketanji Brown Jackson Hardest Hit
Alito, Thomas, and Gorsuch clapped back at Brown’s dissent, and by SCOTUS requirements, their response is sort of epic.
California voters have a probability to change the trajectory of the failing state, not only with the mayoral race but in the gubernatorial battle, where Republicans Steve Hilton and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco have given us the first real alternative in years to take back Sacramento.
Iran Hilariously Claims It’s a ‘Superpower,’ but the US Isn’t Laughing – It’s Acting
No, superpowers have energy — it is kind of in the title. When you have got your navy decimated and the U.S. has air superiority over you, you aren’t a superpower. And when you may’t stop a blockade of your transport. Not to point out, your financial system collapsing and your Supreme Leader either useless or in hiding does not make your level.
Trending Across Townhall Media
Bearing Arms — Tim Walz’s Daughter Just As Dumb As Dad on Gun Control
Beyond that, though, most people are just braying about how we need gun control, but no one appears to have something real to suggest. Maybe because they know that nothing they may suggest would have performed something and they do not need people like me to rip it aside for being moronic.
HotAir — Restaurants and Retail Stores Have Had Enough of ‘Micro-Looting’
This is the same pattern that resulted in every drug store needing to put all of the merchandise in plastic circumstances. Micro-looting is just shoplifting by another title and, sadly, there are a lot of younger people who assume it is a great thought and lots of influencers joyful to assist it as an assault on captialism.
PJ Media — Nick Shirley Went to Cuba. He Almost Didn’t Make It Home.
“This is probably the most dangerous situation I’ve ever been into,” he said, later including, “So if I make it out, this video gets seen. If it doesn’t, I’m most likely in a prison cell, which I really hope is not the case.”
Townhall — Justice Alito Just Took Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Cleaners
Now, with this judgment, there was a harsh rebuke of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s dissent, where Justice Alito, in an educational tone, primarily called her a reckless clown who doesn’t perceive the law.
Twitchy — Alito vs. Jackson Gets Heated Fast
And none of us is at all stunned; when pores and skin shade and intercourse (even though Jackson cannot inform us what a lady is) turns into the main qualification for important appointments like SCOTUS, the entire court is in hazard.
WHAT’S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill…
The critters are off on their “District Work Week,” but that’s not maintaining the Dems from their regular shenanigans.

Keeping Up With the Cabinet
Sec. Homeland Security – Markwayne Mullin — Mullin’s been on the job for six weeks now, and appears to be proving President Trump’s determination a good one. Notably, he is back to having a (principally) funded division, no longer held hostage by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and the Dems.
I would like to thank every @DHSgov worker who confirmed up to Make America Safe Again during the Democrats longest authorities shutdown in our historical past.
For 76 days, these Patriots defended our national security without a assured paycheck.

Full Court Press…
I’ve talked about that I’ve been taking part in catch-up on court circumstances — finally managed to wade through the remaining of my notifications, so listed below are some of the most current notable deisions:
- ✅ In Louisiana v. USFDA (mifeprestone), fifth Circuit Court of Appeals GRANTS keep pending appeal. [5/1 – SCOTUS has since granted temporary/administrative stay of this order.]
- ❌ In American Academy of Pediatrics v. Kennedy (restructuring of ACIP), Judge Brian Murphy (Massachusetts) DENIES admin’s movement for keep pending appeal.
- ✅ In U.S. v. Cole (J5 pipe bombs), D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals AFFIRMS district court order denying defendant’s release.
- ❌ In Doe v. Trump (USCIS Policies re: Benefits for Non-Citizens), Judge Julie Kobick (Massachusetts) partially GRANTS plaintiffs’ movement for preliminary injunction and administrative keep of insurance policies.
Then, too, we had the slightly gorgeous transfer of the Justice of the Peace decide overseeing the felony case of would-be Trump murderer apologizing to the defendant, and issues getting fairly spicy at SCOTUS over the fast-tracking of the Callais determination.

MORNING MUSING
Not only is today Cinco de Mayo — it is also Taco Tuesday. And just in time to have fun both, we have been handled to a spicy determination by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. (Okay, yes, technically, the order was issued Monday night, but work with me right here.)
Jennifer Oliver O’Connell gave us a great rundown of the SCOTUS ruling. I do not know who (if anybody) is advising Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, but they are not doing her — or the liberal trigger, for that matter — any favors.
Anyhoo — this is one of those holidays that holds particular that means for me. It was on this day 20 years in the past that my beloved Grandma earned her angel wings. And while we had been terribly unhappy to lose her, I’ve always appeared at it like this: She lived to be 100 years previous. She had a fascinating life — and she cherished touring, particularly to Mexico. So I like to assume she left us in her own particular means — kicking up her heels and partying on her means out the door. Love you, Grandma!! 🌮🇲🇽
