Trump calls Irans peace proposal stupid and | Political News

President Donald Trump on Monday rejected a peace proposal from Iran as a “piece of garbage” that he barely took the time to read.

“It’s unbelievably weak. I would call it the weakest, after reading that piece of garbage they sent — I didn’t even bother finishing reading it. I’m not going to waste my time reading it — I would say its one of the weakest right now. It’s on life support,” he said of Iran’s proposal.

While Trump didn’t reveal particular phrases to the deal, he acknowledged that Iran had refused to commit to giving up its stockpile of enriched uranium, including that Iran “changed their mind” from just days prior.

Tehran officers, however, characterised the phrases as “generous.” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, talking at a news convention, accused the U.S. of projecting “one-sided views” while “making unreasonable and “extreme calls for,” adding: “Everything we proposed (was) affordable and beneficiant, not only for Iran’s national pursuits, but also for the nice and well-being of the area and the world.”, reviews the Mirror US.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday identified Iran’s uranium stockpile as a critical obstacle to ending the conflict, asserting it must be removed from the country and that Trump was prepared to “go there” to ensure its extraction — an apparent reference to a potential ground invasion.

Baghaei outlined Iran’s proposal, which included requirements to lift the U.S. military’s naval blockade on Iranian ports and demands to unfreeze “belongings belonging to the Iranian people, which have been unjustly frozen for years in international banks due to American strain.”

Tehran also requested “protected passage through the Strait of Hormuz” and the establishment of “security and peace throughout the area, including Lebanon,” where Israeli attacks have persisted despite the ceasefire agreement.

The ceasefire’s viability came into question last week following a U.S. Navy attempt to escort merchant vessels through the Strait of Hormuz in an operation called “Project Freedom,” which Trump swiftly called off.

In subsequent days, both nations engaged in military exchanges, which the U.S. characterized as “self-defense strikes.”

American officers maintained that these skirmishes didn’t represent a violation of the ceasefire.
