The Boys delivered its crossover with spinoff Gen V, leaving audiences upset.

On May 13, Amazon Prime dropped the second-to-last episode of The Boys‘ fifth and ultimate season. The crossover chapter between The Boys and Gen V aired after the spinoff sequence, which ran for two seasons, was axed last month. Fans had anticipated the full Gen V forged would function prominently in the episode and play a important position in the storyline.

Instead, only two stars from the sequence made temporary appearances, totaling less than three minutes of screen time. This follows the sophomore season of Gen V was retooled after sequence lead Chance Perdomo died in a bike accident.

In the episode, Annie (Erin Moriarty), also identified as Starlight, and Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso) related with Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and Jordan (London Thor). With the supervillain Homelander (Antony Starr) now possessing god-like powers, Annie has determined to abandon the battle against him.

Annie said to the duo, “Pack it up! You’re done!”

Jordan replied, “What are you talking about?”

Annie ordered, “It’s over. So just tell those other guys to run while they can. However, they can.”

Marie butted in, “Hold on!” That’s it! Aren’t you the one who recruited us to combat your f—ing combat?””

Jordan identified, “We have been risking our lives for a year!”

Annie dismissed them and walked away, puffing on her vape pen.

Fans flocked to social media to criticize the abbreviated crossover sequence, questioning the logic of Annie assembling the superhero squad and then abruptly dismissing it.

One viewer commented, “What was the point of all the Gen V hype around Marie being potentially as strong as Homelander? They spent seasons building her up as this unique blood-manipulating powerhouse from the Odessa Project, only for her to get barely any screen time in the finale. It feels like massive wasted potential.”

Another chimed in, “Starlight tells Marie she could use her and her group. Now she sidelines Marie. It’s like they’re going against EVERYTHING Gen V Season 2 set up.”

A 3rd remarked, “They deserved more screen time, especially since Moreau was pushed as Homelander’s level of power.”

However, not all reactions had been unfavorable. One viewer welcomed the temporary look, stating, “Wasn’t a huge fan of Gen V. Glad they’re done with.”

On April 27, Sinclair, 31, took to Instagram following news of her show’s cancellation.

“There’s so much I wanna (and will) say,” she wrote before including, “But for today I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m so happy you’re here, and I’m so grateful for this incredible experience.”

In a joint assertion, government producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg addressed the cancellation. They wrote, “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the ‘Gen V’ characters’ stories in ‘The Boys’ Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again.”
