Others seen the cancellation as an assault on First Amendment rights and a deliberate attempt to curry favor with Trump, at a time when Paramount was awaiting Federal Communications Commission approval of its Skydance merger — an company whose Chairman, Brendan Carr, was appointed by Trump himself.
Paramount finally secured that approval in July 2025, closing the deal in August 2025.
