Director of the National Economic Council, Kevin Hassett, drew criticism from conservatives following his remarks on deflation.

On May 24, during Fox News‘ Sunday Morning Futures, host Jackie DeAngelis interviewed Hassett, 64, relating to the most latest developments in tensions with Iran. The day before, President Donald Trump, 79, revealed on Truth Social that diplomatic talks with the Middle Eastern nation had yielded constructive outcomes. Trump offered restricted particulars about the newly brokered peace settlement with Iran, noting only that the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil transport hall, would reopen.

While Hassett highlighted the reopening of the Strait as a constructive development, the blockade’s results on the economic system will continue to be felt. This comes after Trump’s advisor uncovered the behind-the-scenes stress between himself and Fox News commentator Sean Hannity, 64.

DeAngelis requested, “The president is saying that a deal is near finalization. How quickly can consumers expect to feel some relief?”

Hassett replied, “As people are getting ready to get their oil refineries going back to full capacity and everything, then there’s just basically a gusher of oil that could come out. As we’ve done a lot of great modeling about how long it’s going to take for things to go back to normal, I can already tell you we have already seen signs people are a little bit weary buying oil in the stock market right now. They expect the price to drop sometime soon.

Hassett closed, “If you need to discuss about inflation, there are a lot of other great indicators on inflation. As soon as we get power costs going back down, you might really be trying at detrimental inflation,” stories the Mirror US.

The public wasted no time taking to social media to rebuke Hassett’s remarks, with many pointing out that negative inflation — more commonly referred to as deflation — is a phenomenon where expectations of falling prices lead consumers and businesses to postpone spending, ultimately draining the economy of vital demand.

One user wrote, “Negative inflation? Hassett is an fool. The common time period is deflation, which signifies a weakening economic system. Not good. Economics 101!”

Another chimed in, “This man’s a typical authorities moron, so refineries are going to produce more oil? If they’re working at capability they’ll CONSUME more oil to produce refined merchandise! Negative inflation is deflation. Deflation happens during major recessions and depressions.”

A third commenter added, “He is aware of rattling effectively that it takes months to get those refineries back on line producing a product. Stop making an attempt to dupe the people because we aren’t that gullible or silly.”

Not everyone was critical, however, with at least one supporter backing the director, declaring, “So glad this struggle is gonna be over!”
