Fans of British period dramas are being urged to watch an “immediately addictive” collection hailed one of the best of its form. The drama, set in Whitechapel in the East End of London, takes place in 1889 – six months after the notorious Jack the Ripper murders. Made up of 37 episodes, the collection made its debut on BBC One in 2012 and was due to be axed after a second season. However, Amazon Video resurrected the show and it continued to thrive until 2016 with some of the seasons incomes 100% approval rankings.
Despite being set in London, the collection was filmed completely in Dublin, Ireland, with specific areas including the former Clancy Barracks beside Clancy Quay and Trinity College. Ripper Street is the collection in query and it’s out there to stream now on Prime Video, with followers taking to IMDb reviews to share their ideas.

Matthew Macfadyen stars as Detective Inspector Edmund Reid, a workaholic driven by his failure to capture Jack the Ripper.
Jerome Flynn plays Detective Inspector, Bennet Drake, Reid’s right-hand man, with Adam Rothenberg as Captain Homer Jackson, a former US Army surgeon.
Ripper Street was praised by critics upon release as they hailed it “gritty, sinister, and visually placing” on the review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes.
The series was even voted best show of 2013 in a UK public poll for the Radio Times shortly after the series had ended, beating Doctor Who.
Fans had protested against the BBC’s axing of the series, with more than 7,500 people voting in the poll and almost 38 percent of the votes going to Ripper Street. In comparison, Peaky Blinders came second in the poll with 18.53 percent of the vote.
