Richard Gere interrupted on Fox as he slams | TV Shows
Richard Gere’s tackle on immigration and President Donald Trump was interrupted by breaking news.
On June 4, Fox News Live initially livestreamed the Pretty Woman actor as he gave a speech as the visitor of honor and speaker at the launch of a joint initiative on migration by the Hertie School Centre for Fundamental Rights and The Gere Foundation in Berlin, Germany. However, the event was interrupted by the latest update about Hezbollah, which rejected the latest ceasefire settlement. The Israeli strikes had killed about 4 people in Lebanon.
At first, Gere said, “Did it ever cross your mind that America could sink to this level? Did you ever imagine that someone as crazy as this would become President of the United States and work to destroy it?”
The livestream was interrupted again when the network jumped to another stream as lawmakers on Capitol Hill spoke about housing affordability.
During the first interruption, the host said, “Thanks so a lot for becoming a member of us. I’m your host Christy Matino. Before we get back out to the live event in Germany, I wished to remind you that we’re going to get an update from the Israeli authorities internet hosting this briefing on Lebanon.
“We are following a bit of breaking news. This was expected to some degree. We are learning that the leader of the Iranian Hezbollah militant group has rejected the latest ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Lebanese government, demanding a complete Israeli withdrawal.”
During the second interruption, Matino misspoke and corrected herself, “All right. That’s actor Richard Gere as he was delivering the keynote speech in Germany about affordability. On migration! Excuse me!”
She went on, “But as you can see, we have several lawmakers starting to speak there on Capitol Hill. And they’re speaking on housing affordability,” before smiling at the digicam.
“Let’s head on over and listen in live!” Matino closed.
During his speech about migration, Gere had said, “Human history is the history of migration, of movement. It’s the story of people adapting, building, contributing, and dreaming. And yet, in today’s debate, we often speak about refugees as if they were different from us.
“Apparently, the U.S. authorities is asking them ‘aliens.’ Aliens? That’s the latest. It had been vermin. Now it is aliens,” the star continued. “I’m deeply ashamed of this. They belong to another class of human beings.
“As if their hopes, fears, and aspirations are somehow less legitimate than our own. The simple truth is, we are all connected by movement, by our own humanity. By journeys that have come before us,” he closed.
