A brand-new two-hour tv special devoted to the beloved sitcom Last of the Summer Wine will offer contemporary insights into the programme’s much-cherished characters and iconic setting.

The Last Drop of Summer Wine is billed as an in-depth exploration of Sir Roy Clarke’s basic BBC collection, widely celebrated as the longest-running sitcom in the world.

Actor and comic Brian Conley will whisk viewers away on a pleasant journey to Holmfirth and the center of Summer Wine nation in Yorkshire, revisiting the enduring areas that have grow to be a global vacationer vacation spot, while assembly the households of solid members, local residents, and longstanding associates of the show.

Brian Conley said: “I am delighted to be hosting this look back at the longest-running TV sitcom in the world. Getting the chance to share all the amazing stories, the fun, the laughter, and above all the love, was a real honour.”

Exclusively created for this new special, Clarke has also crafted a collection of “brand‐new written reflections” impressed by the show.

Woven throughout the programme, these are said to offer a deeply personal response to the characters, areas and enduring legacy of Last of the Summer Wine, putting Clarke’s unmistakable voice firmly at the center of the celebration.

Clarke said: “It’s been a pleasure to work on this one. We’ve squeezed all the juice that we can with love and affection. I’ve enjoyed this wander down Memory Lane as I hope the viewers will”, studies The Mirror.

The movie will also showcase beforehand unseen pictures, scripts, and scrapbooks from the personal archives of Sir Roy Clarke, alongside household pictures from the households of Bill Owen, Peter Sallis, Kathy Staff, and the show’s long-serving producer and director, Alan JW Bell.

Owen, who portrayed Compo, handed away in 1999 at the age of 85, while Peter Sallis, who performed Norman Clegg for many years, died in 2017. Kathy Staff took on the position of Nora Batty for 243 episodes before her death in 2008.

Last of the Summer Wine made its BBC debut in 1973 and ran for 31 collection, concluding in 2010.

All 295 episodes, including Christmas specials, tv movies, and a one-off prequel, had been penned by Sir Roy Clarke.

The unique solid featured the trio of Bill Owen, Peter Sallis, and Michael Bates, alongside the likes of John Coman and Jane Freeman as café proprietors Sid and Ivy, but over the years expanded to embody Russ Abbot, Jean Alexander, Trevor Bannister, Dame Thora Hird, Burt Kwouk, Brian Murphy, Tom Owen, Brian Wilde, Gordon Wharmby, June Whitfield, and many more.

Brian Conley had beforehand appeared in the collection as a visitor. The Last Drop of Summer Wine has been commissioned by UKTV’s Jason Dawson and is set to air on UandGOLD in 2027.

The Last Drop of Summer Wine will air in 2027 on UandGOLD.
