Joy Behar is making it clear she is “not in love” with Vice President JD Vance following his look on The View.

The View performed a clip of Vance joking at a White House press briefing on Thursday, June 18, that he might deal with “hostile negotiations” concerning Iran after he sat down with the co-hosts of the ABC speak show. The 41-year-old Republican went on The View to promote his new memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, on Tuesday, June 16.

This led to a dialog about Americans figuring out more with the Independent political label than the Republican or Democratic ones. But Sunny Hostin introduced it back to Vance when she requested Joy a query. The attorney inquired, “So why were you so in love with JD Vance?” It appears she was referring to some constructive remarks Joy made about Vance off-air, in which she spoke about in the daytime speak show’s companion podcast, Behind the Table.

“Look, I am not in love with him, and I am not in love with this administration,” Joy responded.

Sarah Haines chimed in that Vance is not Joy’s best pal, referring to when Vance said at the briefing that he and the 83-year-old comic had been best buddies when making the View and Iran negotiations joke.

Joy turned to the audience with a rhetorical statement of, “You are watching me on this show.”

Sunny noted that Vance called Joy his best friend, and Sarah said it’s “not mutual.” Alyssa Farah Griffin interjected that Joy went on a “three-minute viral rant” yesterday about the administration, and people are saying she loves them even as she criticizes them.

Ana Navarro brought up how she heard what Joy said to Vance and how it was a “backhanded praise” as she told him he’s “fairly good for a Republican.”

Ana added that Vance came in “strategically ready to disarm us with niceness.” The political commentator further said that Vance came into the show “affable” and with laughter, and how it worked on Joy, but didn’t work on her. Sunny noted that it didn’t work on her either.

“It did not work on me,” Joy argued. Sunny retorted, “I feel it did.”

“It did not. I respect the workplace, and I’m a civilized human being. When somebody comes on to my show, then you deal with them like a human being,” Joy stated.

She noted that she learned that from Barbara Walters. The late journalist created the series and co-hosted from 1997 to 2014.

Sunny acknowledged that Barbara taught her the same thing when she was a guest co-host on The View. Sunny said the late television personality told her, “When somebody comes to your home, you deal with them nicely.”

Elsewhere in the discussion, the ladies brought up how Vance “flip-flops” and is hypocritical for having criticized Trump heavily in the past while now serving as his vice president. Sunny warned Joy to think about that. Joy agreed, stating that “energy corrupts” and is “an aphrodisiac.”

In the Behind the Table podcast, which aired on June 17, Joy had expressed some commendation toward Vance. Executive producer Brian Teta brought up on a commercial break that Joy told Vance “that he ought to run for president because he had a good vibe.”

“For a Republican, thoughts you,” Joy replied.

“Truthfully, as I said to you at the start of this dialog, I do not suppose that he is a dangerous man,” she elaborated later. “So if he runs against, say, Gavin Newsom, that can be an attention-grabbing debate to see those two because they’re both clever.”

Joy additionally shared her thought that “if he had been president, he would go back to being a kinder individual” and that Trump’s “not sort.”

However, Joy asserted that she was “not voting for [Vance] anyway,” particularly “if he runs against one of the great Democrats that now we have on the market.” She also claimed that she’s “never voted for a Republican in my life.”
