Gogglebox star undergoes brain surgery as he shares | UK News


Shaun has always been open about his health battles and revealed he not too long ago had another operation. Showing photographs of the scars on his head, the fact star admitted he was struggling recovering in hospital due to the current heatwave in the UK. Sharing a picture displaying staples in his head, Shaun wrote: “Heatwave is a terrible time to be stuck in hospital until Friday. Brain surgery is deffo not the highlight of my year [sic].”

Shaun a number of years in and out of hospital as a teenager after contracting a life-threatening infection while battling sinusitis.

He said: “In 2010 I got sinusitis and in some way, the infection found its way back to my brain. My brain started swelling and my skull started crushing it so my mum took me to A&E saying, ‘Look he’s poorly!’ and they said it was sinusitis.

“And then I collapsed in the future at home and I ended up going into a coma and they said to my mum and dad that I had a less than 10 per cent probability of residing.”

He continued: “I used to be in a coma for a few weeks – and they said to my mum and dad, ‘Shaun’s received brain harm, we do not know what the brain harm is or how it will have an effect on him or if it is going to be actually dangerous.

“And when I woke up my brain damage affected me in some ways, like my memory but mostly the way it affected me was with my left side. I essentially had a stroke, I couldn’t move my left arm, my left leg, even the left side of my face.”

Shaun’s mum, Julie, opened up about Shaun’s ordeal, described the gruelling surgery he endured and the challenges of his recovery, including having to study to stroll again.

“The doctor said Shaun only had a slim chance of surviving surgery, that there were no beds available. Tom said I just went doolally saying, ‘He’s going to be fine, he’s going to be fine’. Thankfully Tom was level-headed and really pushed them,” she said.

“When a bed was finally found Shaun spent six hours in surgery to remove a piece of bone from his skull because of the swelling. He was in a coma for two weeks and when he came around had to learn to walk all over again,” Julie added to The Mirror.
