Only Trump Would Think of Ringing Both Wall Street

Trump said Thursday he’ll ring the opening bell for both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq from the Oval Office next week. Both exchanges. At the same time. From the White House.

“They’re going to have a bell on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. I said, ‘What do you mean they don’t do both?’ … They’re doing it together… The bell is going to be right there.”

It’s the official launch of Trump Accounts, which go live July 4. The program was created under the One Big Beautiful Bill — 530A accounts for youngsters under 18. Children born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028, get a one-time $1,000 Treasury deposit once a guardian or guardian opens an account. Families and other contributors can add up to $5,000 a 12 months, which will probably be invested in U.S. stock funds. The funds are managed by Bank of New York Mellon and tracked through a Robinhood-built app.

At 18, the account converts into a conventional IRA and the child takes over. They can let it keep growing, pull funds for school or a first home, or depart it alone until retirement. The administration estimates a $1,000 deposit at beginning, with no extra contributions, grows to roughly $6,000 by age 18 and $243,000 by age 55, based on historic S&P 500 returns.

“A child has no money, and when that baby becomes a man or a woman, they can have hundreds of thousands of dollars, maybe more, because we’re seeding it.”

The non-public sector is already in. Michael Dell is placing up $6.25 billion. That money goes to kids born between 2016 and 2024 in eligible ZIP codes. $250 per child. An estimated 25 million kids qualify for that grant. Micron dedicated $250 million individually, including direct $250 deposits for kids in counties where it operates across Idaho, New York, Virginia, and a number of other states. SoFi, BlackRock, Robinhood, and Charles Schwab are among the businesses that have announced matching applications for staff’ kids. Ray Dalio and his spouse Barbara have pledged extra donations for kids in Connecticut. 

“So many companies are doing it,” Trump said.

Six million enrolled and climbing. About 1.5 million of them qualify for the federal $1,000 deposit. The administration has billboard campaigns and neighborhood outreach deliberate to keep it transferring.

Parents file IRS Form 4547 or go through TrumpAccounts.gov, then the app. H&R Block alone opened more than two million accounts for its tax prep shoppers this 12 months, about a third of all accounts opened nationwide.
