President Donald Trump thanked Iranian authorities on Wednesday evening for reportedly liberating a United States citizen who had been jailed in the nation since December 2024.
The president took to Truth Social on Wednesday evening to have fun the release of Dena Karari, a twin American and Iranian citizen, who had been banned from leaving Iran in December 2024 after a go to to her household.
“Iran has allowed an American Citizen, who was wrongfully detained in December of 2024 under the ‘presidency’ of Sleepy Joe Biden, to leave the Country. She is now safely outside of Iran, and in good condition. The United States of America appreciates this gesture of Goodwill by Iran!” Trump posted.
Karari’s release was announced by her lawyer, Jared Genser, who issued a joyful assertion on X, thanking the American authorities and President Trump for his help.
“I am delighted and excited to report that my client U.S. citizen #DenaKarari, who had been trapped in #Iran since December 2024 on bogus charges is now free,” Genser said. “This would not have happened but for the extraordinary and relentless efforts of President @realDonaldTrump. Dena is now safe and traveling back to the United States.”

In a news release, Genser, a human rights lawyer who has dealt with other high-profile circumstances of U.S. residents detained in Iran, said his consumer had been “subject to a coercive exit ban” but “never physically detained.” He added that she was “interrogated dozens of times” by Iran’s Intelligence Ministry because of her involvement with the Children of Mehr Foundation, a nonprofit group that supplies academic and humanitarian help to kids in rural Iran.
According to a report from last 12 months by The New York Times, Karari “works for an American technological company and runs a charity for underprivileged children in Iran.”
Iranian-American’s release comes amid renewed tensions with Iran
The U.S. launched strikes on Iran early Tuesday morning, hours after President Donald Trump said Washington is “reinstating” a blockade on Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. “We’re hitting them very hard. And it’ll continue, and we’ll see what happens,” he told reporters in the Oval Office. “We’re knocking out all of their offensive capability and we’re controlling the straits. We’re putting the blockade back.”
