Patrick Reed will turn into eligible to compete on the PGA Tour again in just seven weeks, yet the previous LIV Golf participant stays unsure about the timing of his return.

Reed departed the breakaway circuit in January with the purpose of rejoining the tour, and has since been competing on the DP World Tour while awaiting the expiration of his suspension.

The 2018 Masters champion has successfully locked up his PGA Tour membership for 2027 through an spectacular stretch of early-season kind, claiming victories at the Dubai Desert Classic and Qatar Masters to transfer to the top of the Race To Dubai standings.

The 35-year-old turns into eligible for PGA Tour fall occasions following the conclusion of the Tour Championship, but plans to anchor the rest of his season around marquee European circuit occasions – the BMW PGA Championship, Irish Open, and the DP World Tour playoffs.

“Once I’m done with this week, it’s going to sit down with the family and my team and figure out what’s the best plan of action because I’ve been supporting the DP World Tour all year,” Reed told Mirror Sports US at Royal Birkdale forward of The Open Championship.

“I’m not going to miss Wentworth. There’s the Irish Open and the big events like that. Those are events that I’m still going to want to play and still play and be a part of. It’s just going to be sitting down with the team and trying to figure out what the plan of action is.

“At the end of the day, you exit and play effectively to end off the yr right here on the DP World Tour, end No. 1 in those standings, and all the things takes care of itself.”

Reed competed in his first PGA Tour-affiliated event since leaving LIV at last week’s Scottish Open, though the tournament is co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour, which oversees operations at The Renaissance Club.

Following Reed’s departure from LIV, the breakaway circuit has been thrown into turmoil after Saudi Arabia pulled its backing. The Public Investment Fund has financed LIV since its 2022 inception, but funding will cease when the current season ends.

LIV executives are working urgently to secure new investors to sustain operations through 2027. Did Reed have advance knowledge that others lacked?

He denies this and wishes his former teammates well.

“My choice was strictly based on how I used to be feeling, how my household and I have been feeling, what I believed was best, not only for myself but for my household, and actually making an attempt to just get back to ending my profession and taking part in on the PGA Tour and taking part in the standard approach of golf,” he said.

“I had no concept that that was coming about with LIV. It was my understanding that it was going to be around until 2032 at least.

“Obviously, now looking at it, it was a decision that I was on the right side of. I just hope all the guys are able to figure something out because they’ve got a lot of really talented players there, young and older guys, that aren’t ready to hang it up, and I feel like they should still be able to play wherever they earn their spot.”
