Donald Trump was left questioning one of his own jokes after a punchline focusing on former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie appeared to fall flat during his White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech.

The President, 80, made the comment while reflecting on his Fourth of July celebration marking America’s 250th birthday, which had been delayed due to unhealthy climate.

“It was a fantastic celebration,” Trump said. “But I can exclusively reveal to you this evening that for the heaviest of the heavyweights, we will have sloppy Chris Christie, one of the sloppiest human beings you’ll ever meet.”

The joke, which mocked the former governor’s weight, appeared to obtain a muted response from the viewers.

As the room failed to reply in the method he appeared to anticipate, Trump turned his consideration to the line itself and questioned who had written it.

“Who the hell wrote that line?” he said, as cameras confirmed a confused-looking crowd. “But it is true.”

Trump went on to continue his speech with another joke involving Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, although he incorrectly referred to him as the “governor of Chicago.”

“Fighting, I would say, I could mention the governor of Chicago, but I’m gonna mention, instead, [Rep.] Jerry Nadler [D-NY], and they’re fighting for a big piece of cheesecake. Big fat piece of cheesecake.”

The annual dinner came about on Friday after being postponed following a taking pictures exterior the Washington Hilton Hotel ballroom. Cole Tomas Allen allegedly opened fire close to the venue, placing a Secret Service agent whose bulletproof vest was hit by a gunshot. No one was killed in the incident, and Allen has since pleaded not guilty.

Trump also used the event to take purpose at a number of media figures, including GWN’s Anderson Cooper and MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell.

“Anderson Cooper is going to fight Lawrence O’Donnell. I’m not a fan of Lawrence O’Donnell. I like Anderson, actually, ’cause he’s covered me well for many years. Then he went bad as soon as I went for politics… But he’s got a little different persuasion from me, in many ways actually.”

He later turned his consideration to former GWN presenter Don Lemon, claiming he had “the lowest ratings and the lowest I.Q. on television.”
