Mamdanis Pied-à-Terre Tax List Is Already Raising | Political News
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted a mocking notification to people about his new pied-à-terre tax, saying they need to verify their mail because “you’ve got mail.” It’s unhealthy enough that he was imposing more taxes, but it was gross to mock people in the method.
Then, as we reported earlier, Mamdani’s administration has now printed a searchable database of residences which purports to cowl all unoccupied, non-primary residences in the 5 boroughs value north of $1 million – which may qualify. The checklist consists of all the names and addresses of the people.
That’s doubtlessly flagging unoccupied houses to people, which could possibly be very problematic, significantly with a lot of loopy leftists in New York City. Plus, as my RedState colleague Rusty Weiss noticed, it is also doxxing the houses of well-known/rich people.

Among the people allegedly on the checklist, according to the NY Post, had been director Woody Allen, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, and actress Cynthia Nixon. That’s a little bit of irony. Nixon is a supporter of Mamdani’s. I ponder if she’s going to recognize her deal with now being revealed.
However, there also seem to be big issues with this checklist.
Citywide, The Post counted over 960,000 residences and people listed as doubtlessly in line to be hit with Mamdani’s pied-à-terre tax, even though just 31,000 houses had been supposed to be subjected to the new levy as he and Hochul initially bought it to the public.
In other phrases, it seems like they included a lot of people they should not have.
Many of the houses included in the database appeared to be misaligned with a tax aimed at well-heeled residents with multi-million greenback trip houses, including some two dozen modest houses on Chaffee Avenue in working-class Throggs Neck in the Bronx.
Challenger Drive on Staten Island was another middle-class enclave with dozens of addresses showing on Mamdani’s checklist, though it wasn’t clear that they had been in fact second houses.
The average home values on Chaffee Avenue and Challenger Drive ranged from mid-$500,000s to the low $800,000s — a far cry from the price tag of your average New York summer time residence.
One deal with was a shopping center, which clearly did not qualify.
City Council Minority Leader David Carr (R-Staten Island) chastised Mamdani’s actions, noting his own rental was on the checklist.
It’s a reckless and silly transfer, particularly contemplating there are doubtlessly 1000’s of properties on this checklist that don’t qualify as second houses or whose house owners will efficiently dispute their inclusion.”
Democrat Councilwoman Gale Brewer’s home on the Upper West Side was also on the list even though it’s been her primary residence since 1994. “So, this whole list must be messed up,” she said.
Meanwhile, the notices that went out had been also being questioned. Journalist Alex Berenson said his 81-year-old mom had gotten a discover, despite the fact it is her only residence that she’s lived in for 30 years, and his dad and mom purchased it for under $1 million. He questioned if they had been doing even basic checking of their lists.
Last week, my mother obtained a “pied-a-terre” tax discover. She has lived full-time in her townhouse FOR 30 YEARS (she and my dad purchased it for under $1 million). She has no other residence.
Is NYC not bothering with basic checking of its own tax lists?

He said she has three weeks to get her title off the checklist or she has to cough up $56,000.
“Thanks, Zohran Kwame,” Berenson said.
Yikes, what a mess.
Editor’s Note: New York City is now going through the implications of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s socialist takeover.
